First Prayer of St. Macarius the Great
O God, cleanse me, a sinner, for I have never done anything good in Your sight. Second Prayer of St. Macarius the Great
Rising from sleep, I offer You, O Lord, the midnight hymn, and falling down before You I cry: give me not over to sleep and slothfulness, but in Your loving kindness raise up my sunken spirit and open my lips and teach me how to pray. Lord, Holy One, as I lie down in bed, remember me, O Lord. Grant that I may pass this night in peace; illuminate my darkened mind. At the proper time send me, I pray, a guardian angel, that he may keep me from all harm, O God.
Prayer upon Rising (St. Philaret of Moscow)
Having risen from sleep, I run to You, O Master and Lover of mankind, and I strive by Your compassion to do Your work; and I pray to You: help me at all times and in all things, and deliver me from every evil thing of the world and the devil. Save my soul and bring me to Your everlasting Kingdom. For You are my Creator and the Giver and Provider of everything good; in You is all my hope, and to You I send up glory, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Prayer of St. Basil the Great (Morning)
O Lord, grant that I may meet the coming day in peace. Help me in all things to rely upon Your holy will. In every hour of the day, reveal Your will to me. Bless my dealings with all who surround me. Teach me to treat all that comes to me throughout the day with peace of soul and with firm conviction that Your will governs all. In all my deeds and words guide my thoughts and feelings. In unforeseen events, let me not forget that all are sent by You. Teach me to act firmly and wisely, without embittering and embarrassing others. Give me strength to bear the fatigue of the coming day with all that it shall bring. Direct my will, teach me to pray, pray You Yourself in me. Amen.
A Prayer before Beginning any Work
O Lord Jesus Christ, only-begotten Son of Your beginningless Father, You have said: "Without me you can do nothing." With faith, I embrace Your words, O Lord, and bow before Your goodness. Help me now to begin this work, to bring it to completion, and to offer it to Your glory. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
The Theotokion
It is truly right to bless you, O Theotokos, ever-blessed and most-blameless, and the Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim: without corruption you gave birth to God the Word. True Theotokos, we magnify you.
Dismissal
